Ours is a fairly typical Welsh valleys house, built in the 1890s from stone and coaldust mortar the walls are two foot thick on average and tend to be fairly good insulators. You can get damp in these houses though, especially on the steep hillsides, but generally they are pretty energy efficient. I really want to make our next home a self built strawbale eco-house though, just need to find the right plot of land and a small fortune.

Its a typical late 1970's construction. The insulation is so-so, but we've blown more into the attic and when we added on in 1999, that part is better made. When we remodeled the converted garage to a proper convert, we added glass block windows to the outside wall and did better on the insulation. It's still at the end of the ac/heat and is the coldest or warmest room, but better than it was.

We inherited the house. It's cement with wood floors. We did tear out a lot of the older features and are trying to make it more energy efficient. We put in underfloor heating and double glazed windows.
