The people of generation X were born in the 60's adn 70's and have been the first generation to be worse off than the generation before them. They entered school with hopes of prosperity and well paying jobs instead they enterd a world of recessions and "McJobs". With all the Boomer retiring in the next few years the bulk of them starting in 2010 as a generation X'er do feel hope of gettting a better job? Do you feel that there will be more growth or another recession or depression? How do you see the future for the X'ers?

I don't think that there will be more growth, there might be a chance with my generation to get a higher paying job and that will only help the one's who could not get a job in their feild of work. The one's who managed to have jobs by working in their feild are bareing the brunt of taxes off their paychecks already. Majority of homes already are two income homes and still find it hard to save money, put aside for retirement, with the rise in taxes, utilities, user fees, gas, etc. how can one save money. Every year people are saying less is going on their tables and more is going to bills. So I think it's highly likely to see a recession or even a depression because people are taped out. In my city just one Mill closure has lost more 1000 jobs the ripple effect will be tremendous, and this Northern Ontario community has suffered with 4 Mill closures, many people have walked away from the mortages and any future they once had here. My husbands company went Bankrupt last year, it has dramaticaly effected how we spend money, save money, he was lucky to find a job but it pays alot less. So for those who can't find jobs and need services such as Welfare put more strain again on the system and the working joe's again carry the brunt of expenses again off their paychecks. Generation X and the generation behind us(our children) have very expensive futures ahead of them, which will leave little for growth because it will take that much longer for them to save money for their futures( retirement, owning a home).Already Canada has said that generation X people will more than likely not get Canada Pension when they retire because Canada can't afford it...so why are we paying for it off our checks now?

I agree with the CPP why are paying for soemthing we are not going to get. I have read the same thing and ye the goverment insists there will be a CPP for all who paid into it. Already they are making it harder to collect it adn makeing rules that make you exempt from collecting it. Here in BC several smaller mills have closed in some cases wiping out whole little towns. Soem of the mills were auctioned off and were sold for less then scrap or the were crated up and shipped off to other places. I have friends who live in the north of BC and they tell me that it the same up there when a mill closes the ripple effect is huge most of the young people have had to leave to find work in the oil feilds of Alberta. The Generation that is leaving school now are suppose to have a better chance of getting a well paying job then those who are generation X'ers.

Hey, a lot of us Babyboomers are taking a beaating too. With this global economy crapola, I lost my job. I used all the money I had saved for retirement for over 20 years to use to live while I now have a McJob. I think those Generation X ers aren't any worse off then anyone else.

I don't worry about myself. I have a good career and did NOT live up to the Gen-X label of being a slacker. I'll have a job. I'll make decent money. What I can NOT rely on is social security or retirement funds. The current boomers are living longer than their social security was set up for them. They will be spending MY social security money. it won't be there for ME when I retire. The system was set up for people who worked a long time and passed away at 70 or 75. We all know people live a LOT longer than that these days (my grandfather is now 104) so that money won't be around. So I have to take care of my own finances, because it won't be there for me when I retire.
