Do you use food from dented up cans? These can be found at drastically reduced prices but I am afraid to use them! what if the seal is not good because of the denting? My son told me if I boil the contents for 10 minutes it would kill off any botulism or trichonosis bugs, but I am too afraid still. If you do decide to use food from damaged cans, do not purchase them if they are bulging at all - from the sides or the tops!

I don't buy much canned food anymore. I used to buy some dented ones when I was really low on money...I never had any bad effects from them.

We won't buy them. It's not only the swollen tops that you need be afraid of, it is also rust. I have seen rusted cans of food for sale. They shouldn't even be on the shelf. We have always been told that botulism can kill you. It doesn't matter how long you cook it, it will not be killed off. I wouldn't take any chances. Saving money is great, but at what risk?

I don't buy a dented or damaged can of food; I don't want to take the chance of food poisoning. One of my daughters had food poisoning quite a few years ago and it was terrible. Her husband called me to come to her in the hospital and that was very scary. As it turned out, it was from a raw egg in a restaurant salad, but after having had that experience with poisoning, I'm extra careful.

Personally I am really paranoid about that sort of thing and am scared to eat anything from a can that is even slightly dented. Perhaps I am overreacting though.

I've been told that you can only get botulism etc from dented cans if you use them after the use by/best before date, and that all cans, dented or not, are perfectly good untill then. Persoanlly i don't mind if they have a dent or two, and i've enver had any problems.

No, I go on by these cans. I just don't like to spend my money on a damaged can not knowing for sure if it could have something wrong with it. I just don't want to take any chances. Merry Christmas
