Recently I was offered a job, and I accepted it. It was a promotion, within the same company making more money and a good advancement with furthering my career. So far I've been with the company about 8 years, and within the organization I was in, I would move around and learn new things, systems, processes etc thoughout the years, even finished college which my job paid for...So when a job that caught my eye came around, I would be ready... Well, that job came about, My job goes on Senority, skills, appraisals, knowledge of job functions etc.. Things of that sort. A guy who also put in for the job, he had about 22 years with the company. He had been working this particular job for the past 6 years. The problem with that was as long as he been with the company, he never was modivated to move about and learn new things, he was comfortable with the daily settings, whereas I'm more ambitious and strive on challenges, I enjoyed learning new things within the company, I got hands on everything possible I could while in that particular organization. Especially with the huge mergers we have had within the past 2 years. I wanted to be prepared, I didn't want to stay doing the same thing for the rest of my life. I wanted to start climbing that corporate ladder..lol With all this said, My question to you is how ambitious are you when it comes to your career? Are you one who want to utilize all you can to further your career? Or comfortable with the daily settings with your career and not really interested about futhering your career? P.S. For those I see on a regular, I won't be on here much due to training, but in the evenings I will be around if I can't get on during the day....:) Happy Posting...hehehe

Congrats on the promotion!!! I would say that I'm a very motivated and a driven person. I see myself at a certain level in a few years and I refuse to deviate from that plan because I now have a son to take care of. He needs things and it's up to me to do that for him, so no... I don't have time to play around and not achieve my goals.

I know that's right, I'm the same way. I don't want to be sitting and waiting on things to fall in my hand, I have to continue to learn as much as I can to move ahead. Now a days things are moer and more expensive and cost of living is going up. I can't see myself stuck making the same amount when things are just passing me by...lol... Thank you and Good luck to you, I can tell you are a driven lady as myself through your topics....Good luck again to whatever you want to do...

First of all... CONGRATULATIONS on the promotion. Good for you that you got what you wanted. As for your question... When I was still working for a company, I tried doing my best and that i wasn't always satisfied not being on top. But that was way back. I would go back and work after a year i think. When my baby becomes a little boy. But for now, i want to focus on him.

When I first started really working back when I was 18, I was very much like you - I wanted to learn everything and anything about my job and those around me. I wanted to be prepared to help where I could at the drop of a hat. So in the process, I ended up moving around alot and basically worked in every department over the course of 6 years. Over the next few years I did the same thing but less and less because it never seemed to get me much of a raise pay wise and I was tired of working my butt off and not being rewarded for it. The last couple of jobs I've had, I learn what I can but I can't say I go out of my way to learn them. Somehow I've always been the one employee that gets trained to do it 'all' and then when they are laying off people - I get the boot. Now I'm a SAHM and I love it. I can be as active or lazy as I want and I have no one to answer to. It's my dream job! *lol* Congrats on your promotion!!

Internal promotion - that's really a good offer. Congratulations! When I started to work, I had high ambitions too. I want to climb the corporate ladder. After years into working life, I discovered the bigger the organisation, the higher the ladder, the more political it is. I backed out. I went into providing service, and realised customers are taking us for granted when we provide good customer service. I prepared myself, I upgraded myself, I do my best to enrich my career. But what comes out of it? I am no longer ambitious. I just do my best now.

Thank you very much...Yes, it does become more political...I do know the way the world is changing, you have to get in all you can...I don't want to work until I'm 50 or 60 or at least if I do, it's by choice not because I have to... Thank you again

each and everybody should be ambitiuos and one should try to grow more and more in future. before taking jump from one company to another, we should see two three vital things which are as under :- i) what is company's growth ii) is their reputation in the market or not. iii)what is working hour. iv) is there any benefits like PF, Bonus, H.R. Conveyance, gratuity etc. or not. v) is company gives annual increment to employee each year or not. if you think these are the features instead of your present set up, then you can change for your betterment otherwise jumping jack without any aim or target is fruitless. thanks.
