I think a reunion is still in the works. The way I understand it, Eddie's son will be in for Mike Anthony on bass. I understand that Mike Anthony is presently working with Sammy Hagar.
Sammy Hagar already was a well-known in the music business before joining VanHalen. When he & VanHalen parted ways, Sammy just went back to his own career, & somewhere along the way, recruited Mike Anthony to join him when VanHalen was not doing anything. Before Mike Anthony joined Sammy, VanHalen recruited Gary SHarone from Extreme for a short while.
Eeerrrr - id you forget Van Extreme? Or did you intentionally leave that out? I'm not sure if they made any new material with Gary though.

VanHalen was inactive for a while, so at the time, Sammy Hagar probably needed a bass player, & being that they were probably friends, & has actually experienced Nike Anthony in action, that was probably how he got recruited. From what I understand, even though Sammy split from VanHalen, they were all still friends,

Diamond Dave was and still is the best!
That guy rocks.
I don't know why the band couldn't get
along with him.
He's a Libra and they are always the super star.
But very nice people.
I heard once that Eddie Van Halen's then wife Valerie Bertenelli
said to Eddie, "Why aren't you the star? It's your band!"
The band broke up soon after that.

It seems that there are quite a few bands out there in which the guy who started the band is somewhat of an unknown.
Black Sabbath - the band is Tony iommi's band, but you mention his name, quite a few people would look at you wondering, "HOO DAT?" They would know Black Sabbath when you mention that he's their guitarist. If you mention Ozzy or Dio, people would know who you're talking about.
Scorpions - Rudolf Schenker's band, but he is relatively known except by people who are REALLY into their music & history. Names that people might associate with them are Michael Schenker (Rudy's younger brother) & Uli Jon Roth (probably not very well-known either).
The Temptations (around since around 1960) - Otis Williams' singing group, but a relatively unknown name. He might be a bit well-known from his book that he wrote about the group, but the actual stars are (or were) David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, & Dennis Edwards.
Most of the time, groups/bands started & owned by the big star are usually solo careers in which the name of the band is the actual star or has the star's name in it.
