Have you overcome your FEARS?

Have you done something you were afraid to do before? How did it feel when you did? I haven't swam in open waters before. I'm not a good swimmer and it has always been on the confines of a swimming pool for me. And I haven't seen a live whale or a shark except for in the movies or tv programs (animal planet etc). Exactly 1 year ago today, I went with a few friends and colleagues to go spotting the whalesharks (or locally termed "butanding" here). I went along because I thought you'd see them in a safe distance. But surprise... surprise... you have to go swimming with the whalesharks. Although known to be quite friendly... it still is a whaleshark for me... and about 23 feet too! It may not be the biggest but it was definitely pretty big for me. So in this occasion, I was able to swim for a while on open waters... (scary! but i have got to try) and was mere inches from a whaleshark (scary too! but since i'm already there...). I'm just glad I did though. I'm now more confident that I can try some other things too and be a little more adventurous. :) How about you?

in child psychology, we find ways to make an object of fear less threatening. have you considered watching cartoons where spiders are just but a comic character? they say that when objects of fear are put in an environment or setting where the person can take control... it's easier for the person to control the fear. just a thought. :)

Good for you,my problem is i don't know how to swim but i can float if i want to, when i start to move my arms for some freestyle swim then it's a different story, i started sinking and sometimes it scares me, i've never drowned before but i think drowning is my greatest fear

i wouldn't want to drown either, who would? -lol- and i don't even swim that well too, but i do try a little every now and then. a pool suits me just fine coz it's just about 5-6 feet and i could generally cope in that depth. but open waters? even if it's easier to float on open waters, it scares me more because of the vast surface it covers, unlike pools with sides and corners. -lol- thanks!
