2002 Neon Timing Belt or Transmission?

Had difficulty getting it into gear, would only go in third gear(automatic) and there was very little power. Tried to limp it to dealer, didn't make it lost all power and engine light came on. Shut it down and had it towed. Just days before this noticed whining noise during acceleration. Some say transmission and some say timing belt. Dealer looking at it tomorrow but I'm curious if this has happened to anyone else.

I will tell you it is the timing belt slipping, I have had many car do that after time. but as for the car not going into gear you may want to have the transmission checked or check your fulid first. good luck and WELCOME TO MYLOT.
