Do you ever tune out your spouse?

Every teenager is familiar with the act of intentionally tuning out parents yada yada. Do you ever feel that your spouse is giving you the yada yada? Do you consciously tune him or her out and just pretend you are listening? Do you ever get caught not knowing what was said when it was something important that you should have heard? This can be embarassing to you and hurtful to your partner. We should all try to be better listeners and try to understand what is being said.

I do that to my hubby all the time but it is kind of a game for us. He knows it drives me crazy to have someone talking to me while I am talking on the phone or watching tv(which is a rare thing) so he does it on purpose. He loves to watch me strain to hear what the other person (or tv) is saying and that eventually I will lose my cool and tell him to "shut up for pete's sake! Just shut up!" This always sends him into a fit of the giggles. I can't wait until we are in the nursing home together. I am going to hide his teeth every chance I get. lol

I'm guilty! I tend to tune out my wife a little too often. Especially when I'm playing video games or when I'm on my computer. I don't know why but I just do it. My wife gets really mad about this, but I usually make up for it by doing chores around the house. I do try to listen to her as much as I can, though.

I think computer and TV are a big reason for this problem. Also, it was a problem before but now we use the computer and TV as tools. Pretty disgusting.

I might do unintentionally sometimes, especially when i'm watching one of my favorite tv shows. But then i tell him "sorry, i didn't hear you" and listen. But he does it to me often, and doesn't seem to care that it bothers me. He'll do it while watching tv, while being on his laptop, especially while playing stupid video games. I just get so angry! Then 5-10 minutes later he'll say "sorry, did you say something? I didn't pay attention" I do that, like i said, sometimes, but i ask him about it like not even 1 minute after.
