Im curious as to how many of you out there around the world know of the 5 second rule. Most of our friends in California knew of it, however living in Austria now, nobody knows what it means, not even the parents. So I'm wondering how many people here in the world of MyLot have heard of this rule.

I always heard about it as the 3 second rule. I think it depends a lot, on the food and on the floor LOL Don't really use it much though ... I never know if my food falls right on top of the Fitipaldi of the germ world hehehe

LOL I know what you mean. I have dogs home, so not even from my floor just in case :) Then again with the dogs sometimes it doesn't stay there even for the 3 seconds hehehe I don't think they ever heard of that rule:)

When I had dogs I didn't use the 5 sec rule either. No way. My dog was great at picking up under the table. My husband when he was a kid used to toss all his lima beans under the table for the dog to eat, because he hated lima beans but his mom always made him eat them.

yeah I don't use it much either, only on my wood floor. I'd never eat anything that fell on carpeting though. Especially it's it's old lime green shag from the 70s, who knows what's living in there.

I'm from India and am aware of the 5 second rule although I really dont like using it! Especially if the floor is wet or dirty or the food item is a wet or oily one. Dry food (eg chips) on a clean dry floor and I'll even stick to a ten second rule!

yeah I don't like it too much either. Sometimes I cringe when I see my kids just picking stuff up and eating it before I can take it away. But on the other hand they are still alive... so my floor can't be all that dirty. I do have hardwood floor and not carpeting.

The five-second rule wasn’t invented for the person eating; it was made up for witnesses. Per University of Illinois it is not a myth. http://www.waff.com/Global/story.asp?S=1483067

I'm from the Philippines and I am aware of the five second rule (heck, I even use it sometimes! lol). But I couldn't remember where I first heard it or who taught me about it.
