i am originally from china, being in this country over 10 years. i came to this country with dream, and i indeed love this country even without my dream becoming true (lol). i consider myself an individualist and that's why i admire western culture and philosophy so much because i believe it is where individualism was fertilized. however, after being here over 10 years i started to think differently about the overall ideology of this country. in real life, people in this country seems to have fear of being different, being special and can't wait to show how they are just one of the regular being. so whenever they find someone who is different, they usually turn away from them.
i might be a little subjective on this because this thought i got mostly from my own experience. beside my sextual orientation (lesbian), i believe i am a lot different from 'normal' people (interests, spiritual needs). i was left alone by a lot of people whom i wouldn't mind to be friend with. or, i could be completly wrong. maybe i should adjust myself a little bit, get out of my ego, and see what happens...
what do you guys think about this? i like to know some ameircan's view on this. thanks!
