If you had posted a very hot discussion subject and you received overwhelming responses, do you keep on replying to every person who responds or do you set a deadline or a quota ?
How do you decide who you should award as the Best Response if you have several quality responses ?

Not that I've ever been in that situation but I did receive around sixty responses once and found it best to go reply to them as the responses were received. I kept checking back so that I could keep up with it. I don't nominate best response until about three or four weeks after I've started the discussion and I reply to each and every one as they come in. I also rate the good responses as I go, so it's easier to pick a best response when I do carry out the task.
Brightest Blessings.

As long as someone replies to you, I feel it is only polite to read that response. Rate it or not, it's up to you. But it is always polite to at least go through it.
Even myLot does not encourage us to reply to every response to our discussions. So for me, I selectively reply to the witty ones or ones which I see genuine effort. If you receive overwhelming response to your discussions, give yourself a pat on the back. But hey, don't sit there smug and take things for granted. People take time to support you so once again, make sure you at least read it.
But after I mark the best response, it means I want it closed, sort of. So I may choose whether or not to respond to the responses. But I will still read it and rate it personally.
If you have several quality responses and really can't choose the best, do a random dance or give it to a friend. Up to you really. For me, I did introduce the virtual medal initiative which I think you might recall. ;-)

I always try to read through everyone who responds as they took the time and effort to reply.
I do rate them if I find what they say make sense. But I try not to give negative ratings unless that person is fooling around and becomes a nuisance.
Oh yes, I do remember the Virtual Medal of which I am very thankful and honoured to be awarded by you.
Thanks for your sound advice and tips :-)

I read every single response a mylotter posts on my discussion. You aren't supposed to reply to them all, but I read every single one, and reply to many. Almost all of the time I give a best response after 4 weeks, but if the responses are over 40, I might give a best response after a little over a week.

Thanks for your input, my friend.
Sometimes, I find it quite difficult to respond to everyone but I am thankful and appreciative for everyone who makes an effort or attempt to give quality replies or responses. :-)

yes i do try to respond to each response
i can't say it is done immidiatly but it is done and is very important to me. i always read them and rate them.
about the best response and choosing it..here you got me, i have many unresolved posts that i did not choose the best response yet..i do admitte to have a problem in choosing it so i just wait a week or so and then read again all the discussion and make a choice
usually i think that the person that took the responded very "deeply" and interesting - he takes the crown..

Yes, I agree with you that replying to responses is important. It shows that you are reponsive and listens to what they have to say.
Deep thoughts and interesting discussions are good criteria.
