Do you garden with your kids? Gardening with your kids can be a very educational experience. Gardening offers a sensory experience that kids can really get into. "touch, sight, smell and taste. You might want to try some fruits such as strawberry, mint or snap peas. I think gardening with your kids is a great family activity. I do it with the little ones in my family, and they really enjoy it.

My kids never really got into it in a big way thoguh they did have carrots grown (unsuccessfully I must add LOL) and they loved helping with the cucumbers (we had more of those than I knew what to do with LOL) but as far as weeding, etc etc they never really got into it back then....I am hoping though that this yr they will..but I won't force them to...

They will probably want to do the weeding etc when they are older. I grew up in a home with a garden, and I swore I will never do gardening when I grow up. Here I am and loving it.

Unfortunately I never could convince either of my children into gardening but I've had great success with my grand-daughter. She loves being in the garden and will spend all day and night out there if she could. I started her off early and now she's 7 she is already experienced and knows her plants. We grow our own fruit and veggies as well as lots of plants. She has her own gardening kit and has 'special' gardening clothes!!

yeah, I have made my son since he was four year old water all my plants and take out weeds along with me. He loves to do so and its a great bonding time for us. we both come back all dirty and wet in summers. I hope to get my daughter also to do the same once she is grown up a bit. But at nionemonths she is already after us to let her pluck weeds and keeps going for it. SHe refyses to sit in the pram and merely watch us. She makes a gereat deal of noise about being left out, lol

I don't yet, but I plan to. I'm renting right now, and my son is less than a year old anyway, hence the "not yet". I think gardening with kids is a wonderful idea. I've helped my friends and their kids in the garden, and it's amazing how many different things kids can learn from gardening: science, responsibility, cause and effect, sustainable lifestyles... it just goes on and on. I look forward to having a garden for myself and my family, and I definitely plan to involve my son in it.

Yes Venshida, you are absolutely right, gardening is an exciting experience for every kid. Unfortunately I have only a very little garden, but my little son always plays there and when we visit my friends who live in the country, my son always has fun gardening. When I have time I always take him to woods and we walk a lot speaking, looking at the landscape around us, smelling sweet scents and listening to the voice of many little birds....

I have no kid, because I don't marry yet. But I agree with you wholeheartedly. And I will do it. I love kids. And I think it is a basic education to introduce them to be faliliar with nature. It will grow their affection too.
