The Heart is a Garden -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Heart is a Garden The heart is a garden Where things are grown What is found there Depends on seeds sown The planters are people We meet every day They plant things deep And hope for sun's rays But just like all gardens That we walk through The heart can grow weeds When things are askew So we must be diligent Our garden to keep And sort out the things That may cause us to weep We can't stop it It is part of life Somedays are all happiness Somedays bring strife But if we work hard The good seeds will grow And choke all the bad ones Then good over evil will flow I have met some Who forget to weed out The hatred and hurt That brings only doubt And then there are others Who weed everyday And bring sunshine to others In all they do and say Now as I look at my garden To see what grows there I hope to see good things A heart that is fair Let's search the seeds See which ones to sow Faith, hope and trust Are good ones I know Love, peace and laughter Compassion and honor too Respect, caring and support To name just a few As we tend our gardens And harsh winds blow The weeds of evil and doubt We must always know That whatever we do And whatever we say Are the tools we must use To keep bad seeds away

Thank you so much for the kind words. Poetry has been my salvation in many cases. I love reading it but love writing more. This is one I wrote after listening to someone complain about the tiniest things. I asked her if she could look deep in her heart and find one good seed that maybe she could tend to and help grow, then maybe she could get some sunshine into her life. That is how this poem came to my mind. Most of my poems are so near and dear to my heart, but I also have some silly ones, those I write when I am just full of laughter and mischief or have found somebody who need to laugh. Writing, whether it be poetry, a journal or a book can be so cleansing. Thank you, I am so glad you like this one. I hope people do not mind me sharing others and I do so hope others might share theirs with me.
