What do you bait your mouse trap with?

I've also got dogs, so D-Con is out. I use glue traps and put peanut butter in them--I caught the last mouse in a few hours (after the dogs ate the peanut butter!). Does anyone have any other tips?

bread with bacon grease, for some reason the bacon grease is a draw. I had lived next to a printing company the paper they had drew rodents and we would sometimes get their overflow. I also had dog at the time. I actually put a few slices of bread with decon on it, in a bread drawer, that way the dog couldn't get to it but the rodents could. It seemed to do the trick, though not sure I mean most houses are not built with bread drawers as part of the cabinets any more. And I wouldn't want to put it in bread box on counter so it would only work if you had a bread drawer.

That sounds interesting! I just went in my garage--my rodents went really hungry and began to eat the wood in my cabinets (in the kitchen) and started eating one of my photo albums (in the garage). Amazing the stuff those little buggers will eat!

well if they are getting in the cabinets, then it may be a chance to try what I said but inside one of the cabinets you don't put food in, only keep one for bread with decon on it. Yes it is amazing what they will chew up, one year we had imported a mouse for Christmas lol seems my aunt and uncle had mice didn't know it, we stored our artificial xmas tree at their place and the tree was wrapped in sheet inside its box, they chewed tje sheet up and had it all stuck in the branches hard to get out, to the point we gave in and got a new tree, We had trapped it in a carpet sweeper of all things and so we were able to take it outside and get ride of it, the neigbhor's german shepard saw it, and went after. not so funny at the time but now the memory of the look on my mom's face and all that was done to try to clean the tree and get rid of the mouse is funny now.

I only ever use humane traps .. always had two set when I had my cats as they were always bringing me little 'presents' in of live mice .. In my humane traps was always a morsel of cheese for the hungry mouse to chomp on .. and a thimble of water in case it got thirsty .. I checked the traps day and night and all the mice were put back outside to live another day .. I simply see no reason to kill a mouse .. just because it wondered inside somewhere it shouldn't have been ..
