As some of you might have read in one of my previous posts http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/918413.aspx I had sent e-mails out to my WOT on Epinions to ask for support for the MS Walk. I've now been notified by three members of Epinions that they are requesting that I be banned from the site.
I've never sent e-mails out to Epinions members like that before and I thought that because they were for charity that the worst that would come of it would be that they would all be deleted. I've been a member for years now, I have 2 helpful reviews and 143 Very Helpful reviews on the site and I'm in the top 1000. Now I'm getting kicked off the site because I was trying to spread the word about a charity?

I'm sorry to say that they really might ban you for doing that. Even though it was for a good cause, some people don't want to do anything for anyone other than themselves. Don't take it personally.

I am very sorry this is happening to you. They do have rules about soliciting though. They are very strict about referals and such, and don't want members or visitors to the site to be solicited. The members involved may have thought that you were spamming them. I know you were trying to do a good thing and solicit for a charity, but if they allowed that people would be soliciting for all kinds of things, they really don't want that to happen, that is why those members got upset. You could send them an email explaining that you did not realize that this was against the rules and did not mean to spam or offend anyone. I hope this explains things a bit better. I would think that those members would have nicely told you, you can't do that rather than threaten you, that certainly was not nice, but I hope that I have explained this well enough, so that you understand why they reacted the way they did. If you have a charity that you would like to spread the word about you can write about it on your Epinions Home page, you can provide an email in case someone wants to contact you regarding the charity. You can join a forum and tell people on the forum about the charity, but you can't directly contact anyone regarding it. Same for referal programs. If you make a good friend out of someone there you could of course do that but otherwise be careful there are a lot of people there who are very strict about the rules. If you had contacted me I would have told you nicely that you can not do that. I am sorry this happened to you I know you were only trying to do a good thing for your charity. I am sure once those people who are requesting that you be banned, that you simply didn't know that this was against the rules, and you are sorry and will not do this again in the future. Hopefully they will be understanding.
