Painting a Mailbox?

I need to paint my mailbox and the post, but I don't want to get dirt all in my paint brush or roller. Does anyone have any tips or ideas as to how I can paint the post without getting dirt on the brush and roller? I thought about digging the dirt down a little ways first. Any Suggestions?

you use spray paint. It is fast more look good.
