My two year old wakes up fussing and crying and pretty much never stops crying. She cries if someone is playing with a toy that she wants, she cries if one of my other children sit on my lap, she cries when her nose runs, she cries when she breathes!! What can I do to encourage her to stop crying? What do you do when your toddler cries for "no" reason?

I sympathise with you. My daughter used to cry all the time, but when she was younger. She is 2 now and hasn't been like that for about a year now. I sounds to me that she wants your attention all the time and crying gets it. Perhaps you should try this. Next time she is crying start playing with one of her toys next to her but without looking at her. When she comes over as long as she stops crying give her eye contact and smile and then start playing nicely with her. Then continue to give her lots of smiles, kisses, eye contact and touches as long as she stops crying. If she starts crying again move away for a bit and ignore her, and then continue again wtih the activity. Hopefully it wont take her long to work out that she gets more attention from not crying.

I haven't tried this method ... I will definetly try it. We have just been making her go get into her bed until she's done crying. All this seems to be doing is giving her some exercise as she cries.

That sounds really funny! I bet that would work. :) I agree that if she is crying for no reason, she wants your attention. And, if you give her the attention when she is crying...she will probably keep crying, or always cry to get your attention. :) I think that you should really try that method, and tell us if it works. Hey, if may be fun for the both of you! LOL :)

Hahaha! That is funny, but it is not funny for you at the same time. I get really annoyed to when little kids cry for no reason, or when they do cry...they just keep going, and going and going. They do not want to stop, and I think that they do it for the attention, or so that you do get annoyed. :) I have four younger siblings that cry sometimes and do not want to stop. If they are sent to their room for some reason, they will not stop crying. But, they do know that if they stop crying, they will be allowed to come out. So, you have to remind them that if they are quiet they will be able to come out. If they are crying for their nose running, maybe you can try to help her blow her nose, then wash her face to cool her off from crying...they play with her after that if she stops crying. It might depend on the child how they stop crying....but anything is worth a shot! Just don't drink and drive!! LOL :)

Gee, I'm sorry madriscoll. That is tough on your nerves for sure. It sounds like it is an attention thing. I don't know if you can modify that behavior or not. She is kinda young to talk with. But, you may try telling her you will ignor her, if she keeps crying. Wish I could help out more.

Sounds like she is teething. They can get pretty fuzzy when they are in pain. If it is not that maybe she just requires more attention than some children. all kids are different. Maybe giving into her for a few days will get it undercontrol again.
