Strider vs. Aragorn

In a discussion with a fellow Lord of the Rings fan the conversation came up that Aragorn is a much duller character then Strider. Yes I am aware that they are one and the same. But in the book when Strider reveals himself as Aragorn and accepts his role as King he becomes a much less likable character. I found I liked Strider the Ranger much better then Aragorn son of Arathorn King of Gondor. Anyone else agree with me on this one?
