I just saw on CTV news that the technology of being able to feel your virtual movements like Nintendo Wii is being advanced to improve medical science. I have looked for a link on CTV about this but their site seems to be a day behind on posted news, maybe I can find it tomorrow.
Anyway, doctors have taken the virtual movement concept of Nintendo Wii combined with other computer technology to make remote surgery possible. It also makes training for doctors and nurses more realistic. Instead of training to give needles on fruit or people, for example, the students can now use a virtual screen but feel the resistance of the needle going into skin layers. The controllers have been modified for the different applications, some having a glove and some having levers or mouse type applications. This is totally amazing. For once, the doctors are then ones playing now instead of the kids playing doctor!!

My husband does virtual reality software programming. This really isn't anything new. When he was in college he was programming software for remote brain surgery, and laser guided surgeries. So the technology has been around for a while. Probably just needs intensive testing before it is put to practice.

It is wonderful that medical science seems to find new and better things every day of course sometimes many years of testing and studying have gone into the latest discovery. Thank heavens for mans insatible quest for knowledge.
