Last gig was The Fall yesterday - it's going to be knocked down and replaced by office blocks grr (wishing we had angry smilies). Another piece of music history gone. Good that Mick Jones and Paul Simonon both got to say goodbye to the building - Mick joined joined Primal Scream on White Man (in Hammersmith Palais) at the end of their set at the last NME awards ceremony there - shame it wasn't broadcast, and wasn't on youtube last time I looked. and Paul was part of the almost final gig with The Good The Bad and The Queen - he told the NME that he was going to take a home part of the stage as a souviner and he did! (fan reviews and photos on the second page here - including Paul cutting up the stage http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/strummernews/vpost?id=1732758 ) the NME hack asked if they would play White Man and he claimed he'd forgotten all the chords. but it got played in the DJ beforehand apparently. White Man in Hammersmith Palais is one of my favourite Clash songs - the BBC has an interesting article exploring the songs meaning. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/6508295.stm Two live versions The Clash http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoPvITLtBng Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISPYvESN7nc The Last White Man in Hammersmith Palais http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/music/article-23390896-details/Last+white+man+in+Hammersmith+Palais/article.do
