pots and baskets

before planting, sprinkle water-retaining gel and slow-release fertiliser granules into the compost. these will help it to lock in more water and feed the plants all summer. plant up container during april and may, but keep in a greenhouse or warm position to develop for a few weeks before putting outside. choose big pots and baskets that hold more compost and therefore don't dry out so quickly on hot days. be generous, really filling pots and baskets with plenty of plants, and let all the family help out.

Thanks for the advise. I never realised that there are water-retaining gels available. I'm sure my plants would love this.
