Have you ever seen a "Chocolate Diamond"?

I'm not exactly sure how they came about. My guess is that it's a fairly poor grade of diamond and someone came up with the idea of calling it "chocolate" because of the brown shade but I could be way off. They are pretty, although I believe it defeats the idea of "diamond" by being so brown.
I've put a picture with the discussion so you can see them.

I've never seen one but I am sure they are lovely. I found out this about them on ebay.
A chocolate diamond is one of the many fancy colored diamonds. The beauty of diamonds can be seen in the depth of the color, and chocolate is one of the most intense colors of diamonds. There are a variety of translucent hues that make up the many colors of diamonds from colorless, to white, to steel, to yellow, and many more.
If diamonds have a detectable hue to them, they are identified as "colored" diamonds. If the color is very intense or strong, the diamond is considered to be a "fancy colored" diamond. The intensity of the color is determined by the amount of structural defect or impurities in the stone. Pure diamonds are transparent, and, therefore, are known as colorless.

Thanks. I think they are beautiful but questioned the "value" aspect more then the beauty. Beauty is afterall in the eye of the beholder! I just wondered if the color in them made them less valuable, as diamonds just seem to be thought of as the clearer the better. I don't know a thing about gems though.. so I could be very wrong! lol

I haven't heard about "chocolate diamonds" before, I have seen "champagne diamonds". I'm still sometimies visiting http://www.bidz.com despite they aren't offering free shipping anymore. There is a short 'jewelry guide', incl. color of diamonds http://www.bidz.com/ht/help?page=jdguide_color, take a look if you're interested. It's an interesting site, there is a lot of trash you would never wear, and at the same time you can find there some most wonderful jewelry for very affordable prices.

Hi hockeygal, I personally like the clear original diamond. I know they come in different colors but I do not like the color ones.

I've never actually heard of a chocolate diamond either until I just read your post! I have to say, I'm not really into the colored diamonds, and I actually read somewhere that jewelry stores just call the colored ones fancy so they can jack up the prices, but they're actually not as good or something. I don't know if that's true or not though since I'm not a diamond expert of course! I think I will stick with the clear ones though! :)
