Critique my photo too please

The columns at the Palace of Fine Arts - this is one of my favorite photos from the Palace of Fine Arts. I always make sure to go there everytime I'm in San Francisco because it gives you a good subject for photography everytime.

I am a self learned wannabe photographer and I would like to share with you one of my favorite photos from one of my favorite places in San Francisco, the Palace of Fine Arts. Thanks for the comments and don't be afraid to give me suggestions and constructive criticisms. I'm still learning and would want to get insights and tips from y'all.

Great shot, but can we also see the whole of the front instead a snap off like that? Is that the front entrance?

The one on the left is an entrance to the galleries . The columns outside are free standing usually used for wedding photos and prenups. I have to upload the rest of the pictures form there, it's really beatiful

thanks! I just noticed that I misspelled my greeting. I meant to write Hi instead of high. LOL!

I really like your pictures. As a completely amateur snapper, I love the clarity and colours you have brought out. From a personal POV, I like to make architerctural details etc straight, so I'd be tempted to rotate the image by a degree or two.

thanks for the positive rating. When I go back there I will try to take some more photos of the column. Sometimes I try to break the rules just because I love that a photo can also be beautiful even if it does not conform to the rules. It used to be taboo too to take a photo thats a little crooked or not straight but I look at photography books right now and even popular and respected photographers have bent the rules in some of their works.

This photo has a lot of bright colors, is focused and clear. I am not sure where exactly you are trying to draw my eye. There does not seem to be any one particular item or area that attracts my attention. I did find myself looking at the picture from left side bottom to top, across the top and then down the right hand side to the bottom. Kind of in a circle. Is this what you were trying to get your audience to do?? I did find this to be a very interesting photo. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Hello there, The problem with this photo is that the colums arent the center of interest, i see the people as the center of interest, if you are trying to make the columns the main point of the photograph, then you have to make them what your eye draws to, try using photographic rules such as intersection of thirds to achieve this. You obviously have a very high quality camera or are very good with the lighting and contrast settings because in that respect this picture has perfect colour. Hope i have helped.

thanks a lot for your comment. This is one of my first photos and I actually took it with my Nikon film SLR. I feel so proud with that camera specially now that you said the contrast is really good. I have to upload some of my new ones where I have consciously observed the "rules".
