I just want to keep things in case I might need them, and eventually I do need them. I put them away and know right where to find them when I do need them. Examples are like ceiling fans that are just out of date. I might need the glass fixtures or blades. And old washing maching that only works on one cycle. Just to name a few.

Think practical is all. I can see keeping the out-dated ceiling fans but why on earth keep a washing machine that doesn't completely work? Toss it! My hubby is good at keeping stuff 'just in case' and when he left us, I tossed everything cause I got tired of looking at and moving the same stuff around all the time. If you haven't used it in 2 yrs., toss it or sell it. Give it to goodwill if still in good shape. My shed is practially empty now that I got rid of all his crap he's been saving.

Two years is a pretty good time limit. And probably good words to live by. What do you think the time limit on cloths that are too small are? Even if you are a diet, trying to lose weight?

If you want to clean out, why not have a sale. This way at least you will be making a bit of money for these items. I saw a tv show that said if you don't use something for 1 yr you should get rid of it. It is a great way to clear out clutter. If you have room to save these items and you eventually do use them, then go ahead and save them.

Well here you must have a permit to have garage or yard sales and that's like $15 and I am almost defeating the purpose then. And I don't have that much room to accumulate that many items. But I was thinking of having like a block yard sale. That way everyone can participate in the event.

I am a great hoarder too and hate throwing thing away. Ther have been too many times in the past when I have succumed to persuasion and thrown something out only to look for it a month later because I need it!

That is exactly what I am talking about. Then have to spend money for another one that you might only need a portion of to fix it. Because you always have to buy the whole thing, because you can't just purchase that one little thing.
