What do you think about sacrifices?

I suppose I'll get a lot of answers against them, but isn't the collecting of money in the church, and the wine, a rememberance of it? I think human being has some subconscient atraction to sacrifices, sometimes interpreting it as a way to get some power over the sacificed thing, other times as a way of redemption in a gift to God. But I also think God doesn't like this kind of gifts, how would he be happy if the thing we sacrifece is something that he has created? So there you have to arguments that aren't just the usual repulsion to sacrifices, I ask you to talk against or in favour but with arguments please.

Good argument. But you can deduce that is not God they want to feed with sacrifices, but themselves.

I always have to look and see what is really going on when the say sacrificing - Sometimes I think we take it out of context. I know they say many cultures used to sacrifice animals - but when I read up on it (for exp - the Twa) they would kill like a chicken and it would look like a sacrifice but in actually they were just giving thanks to God for giving them something to eat and once the killed the Bird - they would cook it and eat it and then make sure the bones were bury the in the ground to give back to the circle of life. The same goes for many of the Native Americans - The would "sacrifice" a fish before they ate it and they would make sure the bones would go back into the water to keep in alignment with nature. My point is that if we do not understand something we give it a name like "sacrifice" when we do not truly know what is going on. I think that thanking God for the food he has provided - then killing it and cooking it is not bad at all. It is much better than having 1000's of Chickens smashed in pens one on top of the other and killing them to meet demand without ever taking into consideration that this is a creation of God that we are about to kill - We just go buy a chicken sandwich from McDonald's without a second thought.

It depends on how the sacrifice is done, the reason, and if every part of the animal is put to use, and the reason behind such. Some feed themselves, others feed the Gods, or Ancestral spirits. In my own Tradition, Sacrifice is not allowed within a Heinzist Ceremony.. But for those who have beliefs in a Tradition that does allow it they are fine to do it within their traditional ceremonies.. or before or after a Heinzist ceremony. - DNatureofDTrain

I can not handle the Idea of Sacrficing others for my own purposes I do however Thank The Animals and Plants for giving up their lives so that I may live before I eat.... That is the closest to sacrifices, other then Self sacrifice. I am big on giving to others and giving up my own comforts of life in doing so, and It is not to uncommon for me to risk my life to save the life of another. I have jumped in front of many vehicles to push animals and people out of the way, and have taking a lightning bolt for a young boy, Which is what lead to my Heaven experience... as well as a dramatic awakening to further my personal path into the spiritworld... I personally will not perform a sacrifice, even the thought of serving communion or recieving communion for me is hard to do. - DNatureofDTrain

My tradition is multiple and accepts sacrifices. Usually (I think when it is well done) the annimal is put to use. But I think I wouldn't follow this tradition, althought I respect and understand it. I think you always try to get something in return from God or any other kind of methaphysics when you do a sacrifice.

I don't really have an issue with sacrifices as long as the items sacrificed aren't living beings. That's murder, ritual killing or sacrificial murder, it's all murder and it's wrong. However if you're going to sacrifice something such as a bad habit or something you really enjoy as a gift to god, then well, that's ok. That's not harming anyone.

Ok, I agree with you but I want to take it to the controversial level. Isn't it worst to sacrifice a bad habit (take smoking for instance) that is part of your personality than sacrifyce a chicken you'll eat later?
