Dysfunctional family humor

I'm wondering how many of you out there are fans of this very funny show? I never watched it while it was in prime time, but since it's gone off the air, I have become an ardent fan. Perhaps because my own family was somewhat dysfunctional (whose wasn't?), I see threads in their family life that both make me smile and cry. The characters are deftly played and I really thought that after Peter Boyle died I wouldn't be able to watch it with the same enjoyment, but I was wrong. Only now, since I know all of the episodes am I beginning to think I might be able to let them go at least for a little while. Still I am drawn to self-centered Ray Barone, his antics and the repercussions of such. Why do you think it is such a popular show? Is it also, despite the humor, hard to watch sometimes? What do YOU think?

I am like you; I recently just started watching the show, and i really like it. I don't know exactly why it is so funny. My dad really likes Marie because she is such a meddling woman; and the thinks that is one of the funniest things about the show. I just like how different all the characters are. Sometimes, it is hard to watch when Marie and Frank fight all the time because that is a little depressing, but other than that it's a great show!
