Mildred was a 93 year old woman who was particularly despondent over the recent death of her husband, Earl. Not able to handle being alone, she decides to kill herself and join him in death. She starts to think about quick and easy ways, and remembers about Earl's old Army pistol. With that thought, she decides to shoot herself in the heart, since it was so badly broken anyway. Not wanting to miss the vital organ and become a vegetable and burden one of her children, she decides to call her doctor's and inquire as to just exactly where the heart could be found on a woman. Her doctor advises her that it could be found just below her left breast. Later that night, Mildred was admitted to the hospital with a gun shot wound to her knee.
