So annoying, why do they do this??

I love McDonalds, no doubt about that. But they have started a new way of answering the drive that really gets on my nerves. You pull up to a stop, and a guy (probably the manager) askes what you want. So you go through the list of what you want and wait for an answer. A few seconds later, a second person asks you to repeat your order! So obviously, she wasn't even ready to take the order, but the first person decided to answer the mike anyway just so it could be answered fast. What's the point? I don't mind waititing a few extra seconds so the person who is actually taking the order is ready for it. Did the manager just ask for my order, then walk off? It makes me feel like no one was even paying attention! Was the order taker even there, or was she busy with another customer. So why couldn't the manager give her a chance to finish what she was doing and ask for my order herself?? This has happened MANY times in the past few weeks and I get so annoyed!! And a few times, the second person asked me to repeat my order when she STILL wasn't ready. So I had to repeat it a third time!!! (actually, that was earlier today and at KFC, so McD's isn't the only culprit) And when I repeated it again, she seemed distracted and I had to tell her various parts of it AGAIN!!! Speed is not that important when you are just going to annoy the customer. So many times I wanted to say something to the person at the window, just ask why the manager keeps doing that when no one is ready to take my order. What would annoy you more? The extra wait or having to repeat your order because no one was even listening? A 'please hold' is fine with me.

You know...you are right! I do not listen really to the people taking the order because I am not the one that is ordering it. I am just the passenger. But, recently my mom and I went to McDonald's for my dad to give to him at work, and I noticed the same thing. It was someone else's voice at first taking the order, then it was another asking my mom to repeat it. Hey...what happened to the first guy? That is what went on in my head. And when I also thought about what you said, it was like they were not even listening to you. But, I didn't say anything at the time, because that was the first time that I recognized if they have been doing that. Oh, and another thing. So, the lady hands us our drink and it has spilled over all over the sides where it is literally wet all over. My mom then holds it from the top and asks for a napkin...then the lady says, "Hahahaha...I didn't know that I did that! :)" That is exactly what she said!!! Suuuurrree you didn't. Why didn't you just admit it and apologize? Then hand us the napkin or wipe it off yourself. I don't know if I have written a lot, but I really want to say this. (It might have been funny just at that moment, but I guess I will tell it and see if others think that it is funny.) Like I said, when my mom is drying the cup, she is holding it by the top. As she brings the cup into the car, all clean, I asked what if you dropped that? I think that my mom said she would say something like....Oopps, I need a new one. And look up smiling :D LOL Okay, here is another thing that we thought was funny. You know when they hand you your drink, and then they let go to do something else. What if you didn't have it, or let it slip out of your hands? It would fall to the ground, and it would be all of their fault because they looked way and let go. What would you say? Hahaha...Sorry, I didn't have it yet! :)

I know what you mean. They do that all the time. The person will hold out the cup for you to grab it and they turn away as they are releasing the cup assuming that you have it! hahahaha Yeah, that would probably be my exact reaction if they turned to walk away and did not make sure that I had the cup! It wouldn't be my fault! I should get another drink! And how about when they hand you your change? They put the change on TOP of the dollar bills. Thus, making the change slip right off the bills and onto the ground. Are you going to get that? And they just stare at you like you are stupid because you are the one that dropped the change!

I never go to McDonalds, but my Taco Bell has been doing something annoying, too. Whenever I pull up, instead of asking what you want, they say "Hi, how are you?" And then after you answer, they don't say anything. I never know if they are ready for me to order or not!

Hmm... sounds like they are making an attempt to be more friendly, but end up dropping the ball. I agree that they should say something after to let you know to go ahead, or wait.

Boy, this would get my husband going for sure! He never, never, never would go through a drive through for this very reason. He has recently become addicted to Sonic, so he does go there. He often comes home ranting about how he clearly and distinctly said, "I'd like a mustard cheeseburger with tator tots and a diet coke and sonic size it please" and they come back and say, "You said a cheeseburger? mustard or mayonaise? did you want french fries or tator tots? and did you say dr. pepper?" ARGH! He can go on and on! LOL

Thats sounds pretty irritating but so far I haven't come across this in australia.I dont go through fastfood drive throughs that often but usually the kid taking my order is the kid doing everything to the handing you the food afterwards.Maybe these places need to know how its turning off the customers cause I'm sure the managers dont want that.

Yeah, I feel they are just trying to answer you as soon as you pull up to the board, but it doesn't do any good when they aren't even ready to listen to you. I think I will say something about it next time I go.

I never go to drive-thru's here in the U.S. so I'm not very particular with the system here. In my native country, we wait until someone is ready to take our order, especially during peak hours of dining when everyone is busy. In your case, the manager should have taken cared of your order anyway, because that's what's happening in my country whenever everyone else has their hands full. If I were to choose, I'd rather wait than having to repeat what I've just said. It's really irritating. I can understand your feelings about the matter.

Why don't you write in to complain? It is so strange, we don't have such things happening in Singapore... might not the manager be already processing your orders?

That would be nice, but it doesn't seem so, since I'm always asked to repeat my order. This is a recent trend also, I don't remember having this problem before... like just in the past few weeks, and it happens regardless which McD's I go to.

OMG! This happened to me the other day! LOL I do not eat out that often anymore because I had to change my eating habits to eliminate a lot of carbs for medical reasons. But I did stop the other day to pick up something for my partner to drop it off to him at work. And it happened exactly as you said. One person acted what I wanted and after I responded, another person asked me to repeat it. I got a little annoyed with the person change and having to repeat myself. But I just let it pass and repeated. Hmmm...to read that this is a common practice...maybe we should change our ordering habits...pull up and instead of telling them what you want, respond with, "I'll just wait until you are ready so I do not have to repeat myself." ha ha See if THAT gets their attention. LOL

Well now that I did all this ranting about this problem, I haven't had it in a while. Maybe a McDonalds manager saw this and changed his tactics!!!

I do agree its pretty nerve racking. I dont go to these places anymore. The food is not good for you and I dont have that kind of money I rather eat at home where I have good food I can make myself.

I assume the repeating of the order would anoy be the most. I do not order from Mac Donalds much anyway though.

It isn't because they weren't listening, they make you repeat the order so that no mistakes are made, this is a practice that not only McDonald's uses, but most fast food places. If they cut down on mistakes, they have a faster serving time, this is just one way of ensuring that orders are correct. I worked in fast food for a while, and mistakes are easily made, they don't want complaints, and they want their customers happy with correct orders and speed of service.
