I was thinking the other day that creating my own clothes would be a great idea if it weren't for a little problem...i don't know a bit of tailoring....although I would really like to have clothes made by my own hands. I don't think I could ever learn how it's done because I've never been to handy when it came to plastic arts in general. So, how about you, guys? Do you create your own clothes? Do you enjoy tailoring?

I do make my own clothes every now and then, when I am feeling creative and have the materials etc. I used to make a lot of clothes, bags etc to sell at the local weekend markets, so my dad bought be a lot of stuff then and even a new sewing machine. I know absolutely nothing about the technical side of clothes-making, I just pulled apart a lot of my own old clothes and learnt the patterns and techniques from them. I do have a few books and patterns now, though, that I have accumulated from friends and family. Sometimes I just like to modify plain clothes - like a plain white singlet top, and I sew lace over it, tie-dye it etc. I love making and modifying my own clothes. It's inexpensive and fun!

I guess you got yourself a hobby, huh? I know a lot of persons who like doing this and even know how to do it. But as far as I'm concerned, even if I had someone to teach me I guess i would still be a "dummy" when it comes to tailoring. lol. Thanks for your response.

Even if I knew how I still don't think I would, who has the time for that anymore.

No i do not make my own clothes. I am not in to tailoring. I normally buy readymade garments or get them stiched from a proper tailor. I do mend my clothes if some minor is needed to set them right. If there is some major work to be done i would rather pay for the job.

When I made it to eighth grade I was so excited I got to take home economics and learn to sew. I aced the cooking part, which was just as well, but when it came to sewing I was hopeless. I had to have my sister rescue my final project and I squeaked by with a c. Several years later my friend and I decided that it couldn't be that hard and set off to make a couple of skirts. It was a complete disaster. I didn't even try again until I was well into my thirties and I bought a portable sewing machine and was going to sew curtains! I couldn't even get the machine threaded and ended up hand stitching curtains. They are just horrible! So ends the chapter of sewing in my life time. I will always be in awe of those who can sew their own clothes.
