The Miracle of Music

Who doesn't love music? There are so many genres of music that there is something to appeal to every personality. I have a diverse taste when it comes to music. I love classical, rock, heavy metal, pop, etc. The only styles of music that I do NOT like is bluegrass, middle eastern (except for Jewish- I like Jewish music with Messianic Christian lyrics), and Hindi. I tolerate southern Gospel, country, old school spanish. I can listen to certain songs of those styles. But my very favorite styles of music are contemporary, hip-hop, classical, hard rock, rap, and modern hispanic. However, I only listen to music with Christian lyrics. I want nothing to do with secular lyrics. The Bible says that all of life's choices begin with the mind. Music programs the mind. Music can dictate the direction of our choices. Music is more than entertaining. It is manipulative. It can be healing. Music has been my friend and my source of strength. The music to which I listen is something I choose intentionally and wisely. I love classic, but enjoy all genres depending on my mood. I abhor rap.

My husband is not a fan of rap either. He tolerates it when he is in my car with me. I tolerate the podcasts he listens to when I am in his truck with him.

@gnatsmom Lol! I’ve only listened to two podcasts in my life. The first was because my daughter in law at the time was interviewed for her role as manager of a pretty wonderful theater (plays) and the other was by accident

@DianneN I love watching news commentaries and online Bible studies, but just listening to a podcast is not my thing. My husband is obsessed with them. I am like you, I don't listen to many podcasts, maybe 2 or 3.

It’s what I mostly write about here. I was raised on southern gospel, and I love a cappella bluegrass gospel. Sorry. The other great thing about music is there’s a style for everyone!!

I am the pianist and assistant music director at our church. Our music director and lead singer for our quartet loves blue-grass and southern gospel music. She and I take turns choosing the quartet songs and we both pray about the music. The most important thing is that they are doctrinally sound, but as far as musical tastes, we try to include a little of every style so that everyone enjoys the music. When we read Scripture, we notice (as far as music is concerned), God did not preserve styles. He only preserved lyrics. Any style is good. It is the lyrics about which we must be discerning. My husband also likes southern gospel. He loves country and blue-grass. We are complete opposites in that respect.
