Driver-less Semi Trucks?

United States
April 30, 2024 9:48am CST
I'm skeptical when it comes to driver-less cars but being on the road with a driver-less semi-truck scares me. I saw this on the news last night and thought OMG! I hate driving on the highway with those big trucks when a human is in control but having something so big without a driver seems crazy. How do you feel about those big rigs having no driver?

I wouldn't want one anywhere around me! It seems risky for a company too, I mean any accidents or problems they might lose a whole shipment or have to pay a hefty fine.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this is crazy. Those big rigs are scary enough when you're driving near them on the highway. I can't even fathom a driver-less truck being able to anticipate anything that might cause an accident.

Honestly, I don't feel comfortable with that. I don't think it's a good idea at all.

It's bad enough thinking about cars that are driver-less but big rigs can't anticipate any sort of emergency.

I agree with you. Bad enough a car, let alone a big rig.

I'm all for technology but I don't think we're ready for this yet.

I cannot accept that as a safe option either, even just the driver-less cars is a scary thought. If it were safe, we would not need to stay sharp to rely on our reflexes when we drive.

@Marilynda1225 When I think of all of the blips and times that our satellite radio cuts out, I have 0 faith in driverless vehicles as I believe that they use satellites also.

I think it's just crazy. I think it's pushing technology just a little too far

Yikes! My car can be driverless, but I wouldn’t use that option if you paid me.

@DianneN I'm glad you listened I think it's all too new to rely on some of the features electric cars bring. Bad enough we see so many recalls on cars as it is.

@Marilynda1225 So nice to see you this time of day When we bought our newncar, our dealer told us not to use the self driving ( we’d have to watch a video), and he talked us out of buying the new electric sedan, which I thought was so beautiful. He told us to wait until everything was improved. We love and trust him and listened.

I differ from you. I would rather they be driver less. Although it would be nice to have a person who knows how to drive also in the seat and the vehicle can be changed from automatic to manual type should the need arise. Till these cars and trucks become perfect, it would be better to have such additional person in there I feel. Most of the accidents are because of driver error, or mistake of other vehicle, or loading error, or issues with the vehicle. The first and the third can be avoided by this type of vehicle. Even the fourth maybe avoided to an extent. So I am good with it.

Well, they may as well have no driver, as here they are just arriving in this country and are ..well you know.

That would be very worrying for me. I know they have massively long ore trains in our north and they are controlled by people in Perth! It seems to work - mostly.
