I think I need a different therapist

My therapist is a man. I think I need to find a woman. I said to him that a rat entered our bathroom. And he asked where is the problem. I said to him that my father was slamming doors and cursed and he said that I should ignore him and stay in my room. So nothing was a problem for him. I felt very misunderstood. He said that I should just remove anxiety like an old cloth. I said to him that if this was so easy no one would need medication or therapy. And he said that it's so easy to get rid of anxiety. And he keeps saying that effort is not necessary to feel better. But nothing will change if we stay still and don't make an effort. I asked him to give me a practical solution and he didn't have any solutions for me. The price is lower and this is why I continued therapy with him. I feel like he doesn't have empathy. I explained to him that I need a job to move out. He said that a job is an obstacle I find. And he said I should just move out even if I don't have a job. He doesn't understand my problems at all.

I don't think gender matters a lot. What you need to find is a good therapist, not someone who seems to be simply practicing or trying out a new profession.

Exactly. Gender does not really matter.

That sounds like that therapist is in the wrong profession. I wonder how much schooling he has?

I had your same luck, no therapist would help me. But in my case they were mostly women. At least a psychiatrist can prescribe meds. Of course, there are many kind of therapies out there and maybe there's one that will work for you, but it might be too expensive. Group therapy is deemed to be cheaper than individual therapy, and it's usually more practical as you do group activities, you're prompted to interact with people who share similar issues so you feel less lonely and perhaps less "wrong" or "misunderstood". Priests and pastors can do what your current therapist does, if not better, and they're free.

He does not sound like a very good therapist. A client should feel "heard" before anything else.

You need a new therapist. I just started seeing a therapist and she did suggest some good things.

We’ve been hoping you’d drop that loser for awhile now. There is a reason why he is cheaper; he’s not good at his job. Right now, you’re wasting your money with that sorry excuse of a therapist.

If a doctor doesn´t help me, I change the doctor no matter how small the charge. After all, any charge is too much if he is not helping. I don´t think that it depends on his being a man though. It is just that he is not the therapist for you.

No, he doesn't understand. You need a new therapist who will help you. He's not helping.

If he doesn't give you the effect you are looking for then I would find another 1 that would & you'll know it when you find them, I have a male therapist myself which is good.
