Drugs-all or nothing

There is so much contradiction when it comes to therapy. Why do therapist tell their patients not to see things as all or nothing? However, when it comes to drug use/abuse it has to be all or nothing and there can not be drug use...

Pigglies I guess because if you're addicted and start doing drugs or alcohol even in moderation, you're not going to be able to control yourself and will get addicted again. It would be better to just stay away from it. I wonder how therapists deal with food...
