Is it necessary to drive for 2 miles?

I have a silly question in the book Twilight. Bella has to drive 2 miles to go to school. I think 2 miles is not far away. Is it necessary to drive? What do you think?Will you drive for just 2 miles or you can walk by yourself?

Sinnabun I live in WA, where it rains about 9 months out of the year. Forks, which is directly on the coast, has even more rain and mist. There are plenty of times I will take the bus or drive for 1/2 a mile just to avoid getting soaked.
