anniepa I've got to be honest here, when I saw your subject for this discussion I really expected it to be a post loaded with sarcasm because why would someone who is so opposed to Obama really write a post that would be a serious assessment of who hew should choose...

Ok, I know this is a little off topic, but I want some honest opinions on this: Do you still believe in the American Dream? If so what is it, and do you still work towards it? Or do you believe the American Dream is on its...

anniepa Sad to say, I don't think the "American Dream" exists anymore for many Americans. It used to really be true that anyone that was willing to work hard and "play by the rules" would be able to eventually own a home and make a decent life for their families....

irisheyes Good topic! I remember when 911 happened, I couldn't help thinking that my parents (Both deceased by then) never lived through a foreign attack on US soil and always felt safe. Now I can't help but think that they were probably the last generation of Americans...

lvaldean The "American Dream" as it was defined previously is dead. That dream of a home ownership, a 40 hour work week, retirement and pension funds, 2.5 kids, college, life-time employment, and on-going improvements with each generation is no longer achievable. We...

cobrateacher We Americans dom't let go of a dream very easily. In this case, it's not the dream that's inappropriate these days; it's how we go after it. If we don't adapt, we'll be extinct really soon. Resilient as we are, I'm sure we'll get through it with our dreams...

Taskr36 ... to defend. A soldier's job is to defend the country. Just like a police officer's job is to defend the public. Sure, cops and soldiers shoot people sometimes, but that's not their primary responsibility.
