Never for me. That is so patronizing. It's like patting someone on the head and saying "You run off and play and don't worry yourself". If someone needs help, even if it will take time and effort, I will help them if they need it...

For me by themselves neither. If with something it would depend on what I am eating. cooked foods I rather have fries. cold foods I rather have chips.

I often have things in the freezer that I've made ahead of time for emergencies or for quick preparation. Or my wife is a rather good cook and knows many ways to make a decent wholesome meal.
