If you are non-religious how do you determine your morals?

imadriscoll @imadriscoll (2228) • United States 2 Dec 06

If you are a member of a religious group your morals, ethics and values are usually derived from the beliefs of your religion. But, if you consider yourself to be non-religious then how do you determine right and wrong, good and...

cpesper I was raised in a non-religious family, so religion-derived morals never entered into it. And yet, we are good people. I think what we didn't learn directly from our parents we picked up from society. Truthfully, it's nothing I really ever thought about....

cpesper There's only one show I must see every week: Heroes. I didn't think I would like it as much as I do. But it's well-written and has a storyline that is convoluted just enough to follow and be interesting.

Do you prefer books or movies?

phr34k @phr34k (116) • United States 26 Nov 06

I like movies.

17 responses

cpesper I love movies, but any time I've come across a story that is available as both a book and a movie, the book is invariably better. The main reason for that is that movies are limited by time and perspective. Books can take the time necessary to build up the...

cpesper I've given up wearing watches. They always die on me when I wear them. I've been contemplating lately a pocket watch. Though, depending on why wristwatches keep dying on me, a pocket watch may suffer the same fate.

cpesper Arrr, why hasn't anyone said pirates? The trouble with being a ninja is that you can't tell anyone about it. Now, a pirate can swagger! A pirate can show off! A pirate can dress all fancy! A pirate can take a joke! 'Course, ninja are sneaky. And they'll use...

cpesper I'm a hypocrite. I'll eat meat no problem. But I don't think I could kill it myself. I've had venison before and it was very good. I'll be having it again fairly soon because my brother-in-law just got his first deer and he gave us some of the meat. The...

To circumcise or not to circumcise?

brokentia @brokentia (10389) • United States 21 Nov 06

Doctors and religion both say to circumcise. However, my partner just told me that it is becoming more popular to not circumcise. Is he right? Do you have your son circumcised? And if it is becoming more popular to not, why?

circumcise

cpesper I am going to respond from a poor position: we had a daughter. But, when my wife was pregnant, our doctor asked us about circumcision if it was a boy. He recommended against it and we didn't see any reason for it, so we decided not to. Which, as it turned...
