Does it help any? Do '+' ratings and 'best responses' help your pay out?

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 6 Jul 07

I've been going through my and my friends' old discussions and responses and marking the discussion topics and responses with the '+' ratings and the 'best responses'. Does this make a difference for my friends? If it does, I hope...

Anyone else tired of mylot?

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 5 Jul 07

I was into it for a while, but I've become bored with it. I have only a handful of real mylot friends, and they're not terribly active. I also get frustrated with discussion topics posted by the general mylot public- and even more...

I don't consider myself a Christian, but....

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 29 Jun 07

I watch Joyce Meyer's sermon every weekday morning. I value her messages and I appreciate that, even as a pastor herself, she struggles with her own personal short-comings. I sometimes get annoyed by her repeated references to...

Why are people so concerned about the afterlife?

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 28 Jun 07

More specifically, why are so many people fearful and threatened by the prospect of there being no afterlife? If you die, and there just so happens to be no afterlife, I promise: you won't be concerned or disappointed! (no...

Kind of lonely, but also lazy....are you like me?

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 28 Jun 07

Sometimes I feel lonely and isolated. Still, when I have the chance to make a new friendship, I distance myself. I just feel that I don't have the energy or patience for a real friend anymore. Most of the time I'm fine with this...

Will you help spread the word?

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 25 May 07

I am an ESL instructor/proofreader with 15 years of experience. I'm extending my business to offer editing services for restaurants (On a recent trip to Germany, my husband saw on a German menu, the entree 'Chicken Spit on my...

Has a mylot friend made a beneficial change in your life?

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 27 Apr 07

I was at a very low point in my life when I became a mylotter. Somehow, I had the good fortune of crossing paths with a very kind-hearted mylot friend who turned me on to Thich Nhat Hanh (you know who you are!!!). Have you ever...

Seeing things clearly- oops, you're not the one for me!

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 23 Apr 07

Have you ever thrown yourself into a relationship b/c you were on the rebound, isolated, disappointed? Then later when your senses return to you, you're repulsed by your choice- and he or she refuses to let go? I guess not all,...

You're in BIG trouble!!!

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 23 Apr 07

Don't you hate being an adult and still often feeling that something you've done, which, in reality, is nothing offensive at all will get you into 'big trouble'? I'm talking, smoking a cigarette that your spouse will later scold...

How come so many 'ethnic groups' seem joyless and serious?

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 20 Mar 07

Or maybe I should ask why Americans feel free to fly their freak flags... I honestly mean to offend absolutely no one, I just want to understand the differnce. Here in the U.S., it seems like foreigners are so serious. You never...

Could you give it all up?

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 11 Mar 07

Would you be willing to give up your worldly possessions and relations (pets and family, excluded; spouses, optional) to live a life of simplicity and humility? I think I would.

Maybe I don't belong in the suburbs...

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 11 Mar 07

I live in a nice suburb outside of Detroit. I enjoy my house, the living space, that is, but I hate maintaining my lawn. It's not the actual grass cutting and leaf raking that I hate, but the manicuring. I guess that's a British...

Would you be interested? New ESL materials.

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 23 Feb 07

I've just started working on study aids for ESL that I plan to self-publish. They are similar to Cliff's Notes or Spark Notes; they give a guided summary of novels. Mine will differ b/c they will also include grammatical analysis,...

Which mylot members have the best avatars?

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 16 Feb 07

Among my favorites are 'mommydearest' (who I think used to be 'browneyedfatima'), 'xphile', and 'sweetcakes'. There's another of a cartoon figure punching away at the computer keyboard furiously, then banging at it- significant...

Catching up with 'old-friends': better on-line than in person?

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 13 Feb 07

I have several old friends that have either drifted away or I've separated myself from. I'd really love to know how they're doing and where life has taken them- without the commitment of a full-blown relationship. I just posted to...

Did Coldplay totally rip off Radiohead?

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 10 Feb 07

I like both, but there's no denying the similarities. I guess I have to like Radiohead more b/c they never recorded something like 'The Scientist' or 'Yellow'- can definitely do without those.

Do you have two faces: the nice one and the EWWWW one?

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 8 Feb 07

If you've seen the episode of Seinfeld where Jerry was dating a woman with 'two faces', you know what I'm talking about. I have this type of face (a friend of mine even told me so). When I'm at ease, I look normal, decent,...

How come, as a teenager, music is your life?

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 2 Feb 07

I was just outside, having a cigarette, and I heard the roaring pulses emanating from a teen-aged car speeding by... I got nostalgic. Back then, I valued my music so highly, even above friends. I still LOVE music (and spend a...

How many of your myLot friends would you like to meet, personally?

I've got a bunch of friends, but 4 or so really stand out. I'd like to meet them if I could. How about the rest of you?

My friend's sister died. What can I do to help him through it?

eslproofreader @eslproofreader (517) • United States 1 Feb 07

I have a newer friend that I met at the dog park. As luck would have it, we live in the same subdivision, which gives us more opportunities to run into each other. We get on so well (especially because he can always make me...
