I know this is stupid, but what is a "hat trick?"

In soccer, when someone scores a goal, sometimes the commentator says that he did a "hat trick." What's a hat trick and how do you do it?

huashua337 don't use cheat =\ they give you keyloggers and you risk getting banned and yeah i play runescape too
