Losing a pet......

I don't really mean if you've actually lost a pet, as in left them somewhere, or something like that, I mean have you ever had a pet that died or have you ever had a pet that ran away? I used to have two turtles, bobby and tommy, and you won't believe this, but both those incidences have happened to me, this might make me sound like a really bad pet-owner, but I assure you I wasn't, although that might be hard to believe after I relate my story. You see, I live in an apartment and you might think that it is almost impossible for a turtle to run away anyway, since they're so slow and everything, but trust me, they are not that slow. There's a hole in the laundry room of our apartment in the wall that opened outside, I never understood what it really was for, and tommy was the one who actually went through that hole landed down two floors below, we live on the second floor and I like to think that he made his way to a park near to our apartment and lives in the pond there now. Now I know that that is where he escaped from, because he had tried the jump before and i had discovered him and brought him back home, I guess he just didn't like the life of a pet and preferred to live free, because i did take good care of both of them. I once saw him peeking out through the water looking at me. We closed that hole since then. But of course, that left Bobby behind, he was the good one, now you might think that turtles might make boring pets, well, let me assure you that they don't, my bobby knew a trick or two, we had this one thing, I would hold him in the palm of my hand and wink at him and he would wink right back, always with the same eye that I would wink at him with. He was so great. But I think that the loneliness might have gotten to him or it could be the fact that one day my sister decided to give him a bath and clean his shell with soap, although he looked clean enough to me, well, eventually he died soon after tommy left. I was really sad, and also felt so guilty thinking that I could have done more to take better care of him. Anyways, I've never had a pet since, and this was a long time ago. I still miss them, especially bobby. Have you got a pet story to relate?

Turtles are notorious for running away. I had 2 run away on me. They get this urge to head back from where they came ( kinda like the salmon for spawing season). Don't feel too bad

Well, I didn't know that turtles were runners to tell you the truth, I mean they are mainly mistaken to be slow steady animals, I think there are a lot of misconceptions about them, but still, can't help but feel bad about it, after all, they were my pets.

This is kind of the same but not...if that makes sense... I had a dog I used to work with called Prestion, and as well as my work colleague he was my friend and companion too (I used to live in a cottage where the dog kennels were where I worked). I had to leave the job due to illness, and that also meant that I had to leave Preston behind, which was awful for me, it felt like I had lost a limb...and I still miss himvery much now.

yeah, it is the same alright, losing a part of your heart, animals have a way of making their own special place in your heart that no one else can really fill. And I can actually feel what you're saying because you've talked about Preston more than once, so I do know that you're really attached to him, but I didn't really know you'd lost him like that. I don't mean to pry.......but what illness...? hope you don't mind me asking.
