When people want to talk about spam and phishing the first example that they generally give is that of Paypal. I finally got my first Paypal scam last night.
An email landed in one of my email boxes advising me that a new email address has been added to my Paypal account meaning that whoever added this address will have full control over my account. Of course I got worried as I did not add any addresses to the account recently. As I got the message late at night, I decided to sleep on it and investigate this matter the following day.
In the morning, things became much more clear. First thing, this email was sent to an address that is not the one I am using with Paypal. Second, the email was sent by service@paypal.com, though I already know that email addresses do not mean a thing. It is very easy to send messages and pretend to be whomever you want. Finally, there was a link in the body of the message. I hovered my mouse over this link and noticed that it was the address of some web site in Romania.
I was relieved that my Paypal account has not been hacked and had a laugh at the people who sent me this message.
So, it is better not to panic when you get such alarming messages and click on the first link you see in the message.

I used to get many paypal scams .. as well as being a seller on ebay -- I get ebay scams too. The messages exactly looks like it is from paypal or ebay but the reality is they are not .. actually the email is simply for the dumb users who will simply fill up their user id and password without even checking on which site they have landed .. but intelligent users like u and me can find it out very well and clearly. Everyone should be very attentive while reading and replying to such type of mails.
