Ok I'm not that old, but I grew up watching the classics like The Lone Ranger and Daniel Boone. Lately there is a local channel that is playing both of these in the afternoon.
And I got to thinking, Do we really need all of the stuff. Think about it for a minute these people had no electric, no running water, no heaters, no TV's and no cars. You get the point. Yet they lived hard but happy lives.
I guess that my point is, Do we really need so much stuff ? Is it really that important to keep up with the Joneses ? And more importantly can we be happy with less stuff ?

I don't think that people really need a lot of stuff to be happy. I for one live in an RV and find that some of my neighbors in the park are happier than the people that have big houses and lots of money. I am 65 and grew up in Puerto Rico without a TV, no telephone and using propane gas.

This may seem strange coming from the internet addict that goes into panic attachs if her computer is down but I do believe that we have too much 'stuff'. I think electronics controls our lives and we let it.
We also depend way too much on it. Have you been to a store or resturant lately when the power goes out? Half the checkers can't count back change because they are used to having a machine tell them how much money to give back. Television, computers, video games have replaced time spent talking with family and friends. More and more people have gone to cell phones which go anywhere and everywhere with them.
Modern convienceses have helped our lives in ways but I think at the same time they have made us soft, impersonal, and isolated.
