Is there anyone here that can enlighten me on this term? It has been reported that the guy who shot and killed so many at Virginia Tech had this on his arm in red ink and also signed this on the bottom of a letter. I have searched and found many people discussing it and almost all are saying it refers to Abraham's son. I also found the name Ismail in wikipedia, it states that Ismail was a Shah of Iran, a Shiite and fought the Sunnis back in the 1500s I believe. It has me curious about what it maeans and how this killer was associated with it.

Truthfully, I didn't give it too much thought because this guy is crazy, but it sounds as if it has biblical meaning. It wouldn't surprise me if he somehow identified with someone from centuries ago who sacraficed himself for what he perceived to be the greater good.

This could be, This young man was truly in the depths of his own despair so there is no telling what things were conjured in his mind.

I read on a Mylot blog that it has something to do with Abraham and being sacrificed before God saves him. Not sure though. Either way, that guy was nuts in many ways

Yea, I came across the Abraham connection which baffles me because I thought it was Isaac was the son to be sacrificed. The whole thing has me intrigued as to why he had this on his arm and notes. It is also very scary too. The Shah of Iran, Ismail, wrote somepoetry and one I read talked of killing and laying down his life. It stated that for those who were to die, this was the arena. I as hoping somebody could enlighten me on this. Thanks.

I have no idea what that means. But if there is any connection between this guy's behaviour, then it must be something bad. Or some kind of belief slaughtering is sacred. Life, no matter that of a man, or an animal is precious to me. I would rather protect them than destroy them.

It is mentioned in the Koran, I know I read it in some postings somewhere. Life is precious, you are so right.
