Is this stealing? How honest are you?

A friend of mine went shopping the other day and when they cashier gave her her change, she gave her an extra 20 bucks by mistake. My friend noticed it when she counted her money on the way out but she didn't go back and give it back to the cashier. She said it was the cashier's stupidity for not counting the money right. Perosnally, I would have absolutely given the money back. What do you think of this? What would you do if this happened to you? Remember, there's no judgement here- I'd just like honest opinions please!

I would like to think that I am honest enough to take it back to the cashier and point out the mistake. However, the financial circumstances in our household at the moment would dictate that I would keep the money so I could pay one of overdue bills.

things like this have happened to me. i didn't not return the money. why i don't know just didn't. some times i notice right away and others not until later. just a couple of weeks ago i went shopping and got a new doggie bag, a cute shirt for cocktail and a pair of jeans for me. i left the store and was walking down the street when i notice the receipt, didn't have the doggie bag on it. I didn't go back, i just said oh well.

I have had this happen to a few times. There was even a time when i had to borrow money to be able to go to the store to pick up some groceries. The lady accidently gave me change back from a $20 when I gave her a $10. As much as I needed money I believe she needed her job. I went back an gave her the extra money back. I couldn't live with myself if someone had to lose their job over amking a mistake.

I would count it again, just to make sure that the cashier made a mistake. Then give it back immediately before I change my mind. LOL... I'd rather sleep soundly at night than think of that twenty bucks. My conscience would never let me forget it if I keep the money.

I've been in a similar situation, but instead of giving me extra money, he forgot to ring up a $20 bag. While we walked out, my mom looked over the reciept and noticed that he didn't ring it up and asked if we should go back and pay for it. Of course I said no since it was his own fault for doing so. Ehe.:x

This has happened to me before and I always have given the money back. that cashier is responsible for the money in her drawer. If she comes up short it could cost her her job. I wouldn't want to be the one responsible for someone losing their job. I know she should have been more careful, but we are all human beings and make mistakes. I mean wouldn't you be upset if she gave you less change than you expected? I bet your friend would have demanded her correct change if that happened to her.

There is no way on this earth i would walk back into th shop and give the 20 bucks back to the cashier. Its their own stupid fault for not counting the money as you pointed out so just take the money and forget it. It has happened to me a few times and i have just carried on, its not stealing at all because you did not take the money - you were given it.
