Favorite Roald Dahl?

What is your favorite Roald Dahl book or movie? I love The Witches (book and movie) and James and the Giant Peach. Charlie and the Chocolate factory is in the midst of those, as well as Matilda. I also liked his autobiographies, Boy and Going Solo. He has a very good collection of his short stories for adults out -- I forget what it is called. It is very hefty and has some wonderful stories, my favorite among these being "skin" and "leg of lamb". What are your favorites? What was your first? Mine was Matilda -- I was about her age when I read it and it somehow has stuck with me through all the years.

I LOVE Roald Dahl's books and stories, but don't think I could pick a favorite. I really like the Witches as well (both the book and the movie). I haven't read his autobiographies but have read all of his adult short stories and thought they were incredible! The collection (or at least one of them) is Tales of the Unexpected, which was actually a TV series in England (like the Twilight Zone) where he introduced each episode. The one with the leg of lamb ("Lamb to the Slaughter") was also an Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode. I think my first was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but I'm not sure.

oh, yes, the title WAS "lamb to the slaughter". I'll have to keep an eye out for Tales of the Unexpected. I don't think I've ever seen him speak, lol! Weird since I'm so familiar with his writing voice.

you can find "tales of the unexpected" on dvd in borders, barnes n' nobles, so I'm sure amazon.com has it. It's kind of weird, as it was made in the 70s and it looks a bit low budget, even though there were famous people in it. It was popular in England, anyway! My husband is from England (which is how I found out about the tv series) and he said when he was a boy, Roald Dahl would read to his class and other schools at the library--cool, huh?!

I was only saying the other night no one talks about Roald Dahl anymore I liked Matilda the best out of all of them, as well as The Twits. I liked his story the leg of lamb too though I haven't read many of his stories for adults.

My favourite Roald Dahl book was Matilda whereas my favourite movie was the latest Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. I've been trying to get a copy James and the Giant Peach book at nearby bookstores but no such luck. Looks like I will have to get it online.
