My phone keeps ringing, but no one is there.

I have caller ID, and no number shows on the caller ID. I answer the phone and you can hear this deep silence. No one is there on the phone and finally the phone will get the annoying beeping that happens when it is off the hook.
When I use the call return feature it says the last call was the previous call I really did connect with.
My theory on it, is that it is someone on the other side trying to connect with me. I also have other very strange things that happen, but this is about my phone and noone there. So what do you think about it?
What is your theory on why my phone does this four or more times a day?

My theory is that someone's calling you with a hidden number (you know it's possible to do that if you dial a certain combination before dialing the actual number). That would explain both why no number shows on caller ID and why when you try to return the call it dials the last saved number (because the actual last call had no number your phone could save as your phone never received the number).
As for why the person is not talking that I cannot say. It probably tries to scare you, probably it's an acquaintance of yours who knew you'd find it a very strange thing. However it is as normal as it gets :)

When some presses *67 it blocks the number not the call from Call return, it just won't give you the number. If it is long distance, it can't call it back and it tells you so.
I had a trace put on our phone and the phone company says there are no calls showing up, when our phone is clearly ringing. Just the other day when they were here checking our phone line it happened again.
The guy called his people at the office to see where it came from and they said the last call to come in my line was 2 hours ago. So do you see why now I think it is contact from the spirit world?

...this happens to us sometimes too and I tend to think it's a computer calls.. that they are unsuccessful, and then because the call was unsuccessful the computer/business is set up so it keeps trying.. Especially if there's no caller ID or star number..

It is nothing more than one of two things. One, it is a company trying to sell you something so the "secretly call" you, and they can't connect for some reason. This is the more than likely. Two, you have a prank caller trying to scare you. If it isn't the above, you have a ghost :)
