Chihuahua Mix tied to a tree

I was driving to town the other day and I saw a Chihuahua mix tied to a tree. I thought I was going to cry. Chihuahuas are NOT outside dogs. They are a special breed that need to be love on and live inside the house. They DO NOT belong tied to a tree. I think I might go back and steal the dog...but then I know I would get caught...plus my husband would kill me for bringing home another dog. I just needed to rant about this.... Don't get a dog if you don't have a proper place to keep it. Tied to a tree with a 5 ft rope is not proper!!! AAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHH

Perhaps it was a temporary thing. Maybe the family had to put the dog out to relieve itself and did not want it to wander in the road, or the longer lead they would tie it to for going out had broken. Maybe there was an emergency and they had to secure the dog for a moment. How do you know the dog was left there (or going to be left there) for long periods? Steal it? I won't even comment on what I think of that idea.

Well because it is going on a week now and it is still tied to the tree. I driven by at different times of the day and it was there. Even in the rain that we had. It even has its own camper shell that goes on a truck as a dog house. I can't stand thinking that any animal is tied to a 5 foot rope. As for stealing it we don't have any type of animal police or agency here. So ou gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. We have a humane society but they are way over crowded.

I see, that wasn't mentioned in your first post. Thank you for clearing that up. You might approach the owner's home and ask if they would be interested in giving the dog away. That's really sad that there aren't any animal control facilities near you. I don't know where you are but it seems there would be a pet rescue group willing to help. Maybe the Humane Society can give you a number to call or other advice. They may have people lined up to foster dogs as well if they are overcrowded. Good luck.

Just wanted to add that one of the pages of my website has a long list of rescue organizations and an article I thought you might enjoy, called "How Could You". You can find it here http://www.k-9campus.com/How_Could_You.html The rescue organizations are on the lefthand side of the page.

That makes me so mad to hear about something like that. I think chihuahuas are the sweetest little dogs and I don't understand how anyone could treat an animal in that way. I probably would go back and steal the poor liitle dog.

I think it is horrible to tie a small dog outside all the time. I take that back..I think it is horrible to tie any dog no matter what its size is outside all the time. Do you know in wild dogs..that the alpha dog will ignore a dog that doesn't follow the dog pack rules. So then the rest of the group shuns the dog as well. That is how they teach the dogs in packs to stay in line. So when a dog is tied up and left outside. The owner is sending the same message..ignoring the animal. Only to feed or water it. If the animal is lucky enough to get that. No wonder why dogs on a chain have a tendacy to go crazy and snap or jump at anything that comes near them. I have no problem with temporily...like in letting th edog relive it's self. Or something like that. But nothing permanent.

If this dog was tied outside every single day, then I think that is really cruel, especially for a Chihuahua. My best friend's Chihuahua who I love like my own goes almost everywhere with him. He is treated like a member of the family, shares their food, sits in my friend's lap while he drives, sleeps in his bed, and he even goes on trips with the family. I think this is how a small dog like a Chihuahua needs to be treated.
