Owning a cat and a bird

We're considering getting a bird and we own a cat. Our cat Little Bit is very territorial and we're concerned that he might just well, go after the bird. We'd like to buy a budgie which is quiet.
Does anyone own a cat and a bird? Have you had any problems with them getting along? How did you introduce the bird to your cat?

Its only natural for cats to want to want to eat birds. But it can be done. I have 2 cats and 2 birds inside. You need a spray bottle with water in it. Surely the cats want to smell and investigate. But when they go near the cage, you have to squirt them so they know not to go near it. Be patient and persistant. It might take a couple of weeks. But cats are sly and will try to jump on the cage.

Our cat likes the spray bottle! No kidding. He thinks it's fun. Only me!

How did you introduce the bird to your cat? I wouldn't do that. lol We had a cat and a bird. They knew about each other. We kept the bird in very high places.

We didn't get the bird yet. I think it's best we don't since we seem to have a wild cat.

We have 2 cats and 2 birds as well (masked love birds). As long as you keep the cage away from anything the cats can jump on and gain access to the bird, you will be ok. Our male cat looked at the birds for a day or two then got bored with them. The female still watches them but 95% of the time could careless that the birds are in the house.

I wish I could say the same for our cat, but I'm afraid not.

This will all depend on the cat and the bird. I had a discussion recently about dogs and mice. I found 3 different responses. You would think there is only 2 ways about this kind of discussion, but it seems otherwise. I can't say your cat and bird won't get along. Then again, I can't say it will. It all depends on the cat and bird. Good luck.

I agree. Our cat is one to chase after anything, bugs, other cats (even ones that are bigger than him), raccoons, etc. We don't think it's going to work out.

I'm still not sure about our cat. We've been watching him more closely than normal these last few days. I think he's too aggressive. He may not be able to get the bird, but I think he'd make it's life torture.
