If you experience heartburn at night, there are many things that you can do in order to soothe the symptoms and relieve this issue. Here, you will find a few suggestions that may assist you: 1) You should not eat anything in the three hours prior to going to bed. When you lay down, it makes it difficult for the body to digest food properly. Sitting up allows the body to digest the food that you consume more quickly and in such a way that you will limit the chance of developing heartburn at night. 2) You should try to reduce the amount of sodas, spicy foods, and foods that contain acid that you consume. All of these types of foods and beverages have been known to trigger heartburn, especially at night. 3) Try to avoid consuming foods that have a high level of grease. This can reduce your chance of developing heartburn. * If you have any suggestions, please feel free to add them here. I have really bad heartburn. I use to get it everyday until I started using Prilosec. Prilosec worked wonders on me. Also, if you have heartburn you can drink a glass of milk. Milk will help with minor heartburn and will get you by until the heartburn meds kick in. Plus, my doctor told me that propping yourself up while you sleep can also help with heartburn. It's not good to lay flat when you have heartburn problems. Even chewing gum helps with heartburn. But the main thing that works for me is Prilosec. If I don't have it, then I drink milk and sleep propped up at night. I use like 4 pillows. :)

Chewing gum actually stimulates stomach acid release (mastication reflex)and is not advised for people with acidity problems in general . Although chewing gum releases a large amount of saliva which can offer TRANSIENT relief because saliva is slightly alkaline , the overall effect is undesirable because of the release of stomach juice which is STRONGLY acidic , offsetting the effect of the weak base in saliva .

This is interesting. I have heartburn myself so I can relate to this subject. I have a herina on the left side of my pancrees because of acid reflex and heartburn. Also laying on your left side can also help.
