Do you get cold sores? What do you do to treat them??

I read today that 90% of all people have herpes simplex1. Not all people, however, break out into the ugly things. I am not one of those fortunate people, because I do get them occassionally, usually when I'm stressed out or sick. I have tried certain medications and home remedies and was wondering how many of you get them, and what do you do about it?

ALOE!!!!!! I promise you use aloe vera gel and you will be AMAZED! I read in a home remedies book that aloe kills the herpes virus (of which they are a type) and so I started using the aloe vera gel - just make sure on the bottle it lists aloe as the first ingredient. Just put some on a few times a day until it's gone and it will cut the time of having it about 75%. I have used perspirations and abreva and nothing works as good - or is as cheap as aloe. I suffer from them too and they drive me nuts!

I found out they can sometimes stem from a sensitivity to peanuts, so I stopped eating peanuts and haven't gotten many since. I've never tried aloe but I will... freakin' Abreva is $15 dollars for the tiniest little tube and I don't even think it works! I was sick lately for about a week and my immune system was down so I got not one but two ugly cold sores... I used zinc oxide and they are both almost healed, but I hate them so much... it does make me feel better to know that 90% of people have the virus... I used to think it was much more uncommon and they're so embarrasing! Another thing you might want to try.. when you first feel the tingle, hold an ice cube on it. Ice is supposed to stop it from spreading and breaking out... the virus 'hides' in the nerves on the face and ice is supposed to numb the nerve sufficiently so it either doesn't break out or is a lot less problematic if left alone. I haven't tried this yet, but I will next time.. along with the aloe!

Cool I just might have to try that! Yeah it does help knowing just how many people actually do suffer from these. And I am with you on abreva. I thought the same thing when I tried it.
